On the 18th-20th, 2024, the first IEEE IMS workshop on environmental parameter monitoring was held in Penha-Garcia, Portugal.
The workshop was organised and hosted by Prof. Octavian Postolache, vice-chair of the IEEE IMS Portugal Chapter and professor at Iscte, and Prof. Mariana Jacob Rodrigues, IEEE IMS member and professor at Iscte.
This workshop was part of the first Iscte summer school held in Penha-Garcia as part of the EduVillage project, which aims to promote better education in an immersive, community-based environment.
The activities carried out included an initial presentation of important topics related to environmental health, namely air quality, water quality and monitoring the acoustic component of the environment. These presentations were given to university students from Iscte’s Engineering and Data Science departments, followed by a practical component involving real-time measurements of these environmental parameters in the village of Penha Garcia.
