Smart Systems for Ambient Assisted Living: Healthcare and Environment
Summer School of IEEE I&M 75th Anniversary Celebration
Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon and Penha Garcia, 23 – 28 June 2025
General Chair
Prof. Octavian Postolache Full Professor of Iscte - University Institute of Lisbon
Objectives
Embrace research problems in the context of the application of smart sensors, instrumentation and measurement, IoT technologies at the level of healthcare environment quality and beyond.
Provide know-how and experience on hardware and software technologies associated with intelligent systems for Ambient Assisted Living (AAL), as well as interdisciplinary visions coming from psychology and architecture fields, creating a strong relation with the home and working place environments.
About
The summer school is carefully organized to transmit to the participants practical and experimental knowledge about technologies used in the development of intelligent systems associated with digitalization of the society.
Sensing and instrumentation associated with human health status and environment quality monitoring for different indoor and outdoor AAL scenarios are part of the summer school curricula, together with virtual and extended reality technologies and AI solutions.
The 5th Edition of the Smart Systems for AAL International Summer School is organized by Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon in collaboration with Instituto de Telecomunicações and IEEE IMS and IEEE IMS Portugal Chapter. The six days summer school will take place in two locations: Lisbon and Penha Garcia, Portugal, offering laboratory and in-field measurement experiences associated with AAL interdisciplinary fields.
The Iscte - University Institute of Lisbon was founded in 1972 as one of Portugal’s first modern universities, with the central aim of studying labour and social dynamics in a rapidly changing world.
