Vítor Viegas (M’2015) was born in Portugal in 1976. He received his degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) of the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (UTL) in 1999, followed by the MSc and PhD degrees in 2003 and 2012, respectively. He works as assistant professor at the Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal (IPS), and as researcher at the Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT). His main research interests include Instrumentation and Measurement systems (applied to process control, machinery testing, environmental monitoring, and biomedical applications), and Industrial Informatics (with the development of simulation tools for process automation and application of augmented reality technologies to SCADA systems).
Fields of interest:
Instrumentation and Measurement: Development of measurement systems targeted for process control, machinery testing, environmental monitoring and biomedical applications. Preference is given to solutions that make use of smart transducer interfaces (compliant with the IEEE 1451 std), explore innovative data processing algorithms (such as adaptive filtering, artificial neural networks and data fusion), and support advanced features (such as plug & play, self-calibration and power-harvesting).
Industrial Informatics: Development of simulation tools for process automation, design of loosely-coupled, highly-scalable frameworks for IoT, and application of augmented reality technologies to SCADA systems.
