L.A. Rocha is currently the Deputy Head of the Micro and Nanofabrication Department and Associated Researcher in the Microfabrication and Exploratory Nanotechnology Group at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL). He focuses his research in the areas of NEMS/MEMS, where he explores the interaction between the several physical domains at the nano/micro scale for novel transduction methods and sensor and actuator applications for health, automotive and space. At the educational level, he teaches under-graduate and graduate courses in Electronics, Microsystem Technologies and Nano/Micro Sensors and Actuators at University of Minho.
He holds a Ph.D in Electrical Engineering, Cum Laude, from Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands. Before joining INL in 2012, he was a MEMS engineer at ASML Netherlands B.V., The Netherlands (2005) and an Assistant Professor at Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto (FEUP), Portugal (2006-2008). Since 2008 he is also an Associated Professor at the School of Engineering of the University of Minho. He has coordinated several national and international funded projects in the area of sensor development.
